All students who do not have a valid European Union or EFTA passport or ID card and who plan on studying longer than 90 days in the Czech Republic, require a visa or a residence permit to study in the Czech Republic.
AAU provides students with guidance during the visa application process; however, students are responsible for managing their own applications. It is recommended to work with a visa agency if you seek professional assistance.
Since all students without a valid European Union or EFTA passport planning to study in the Czech Republic require a visa or residence permit, it is important to consider how your Verto program dates may affect your visa process. Keep in mind the schedule of the spring Verto program — the earlier you return to the U.S. or your home country after the spring semester, the sooner you can begin your visa application.
The recommended deadlines for visa submissions are:
- November 15th for the spring intake
- May 15th for the fall intake
American students can apply for a visa not only in the U.S. but also in other countries around the world. However, please note that students must collect their visa in the country where they submitted their application. Because of this, applying outside the U.S. is usually only practical if the student submits the application well in advance while abroad, or applies in Dresden, Germany shortly before or after the semester begins. Otherwise, they may need to travel between countries to collect their visa. For more details, please email admissions@aauni.edu. Working with a visa agency is also highly recommended.
Once you arrive to your Verto location, you can begin working with Verto staff to prepare your application to AAU Prague. Applications are typically sent following mid-terms, so your mid-term report can demonstrate your progress towards Direct Transfer eligibility.

- Unofficial University of New Haven final transcript for any prior Verto semesters
- Student to submit to Verto for inclusion:
- Unofficial college transcripts from any pre-Verto college coursework

Once your application packet is received from Verto, you can expect to receive an email prompting you to set up your applicant portal within a week.
